All you have to do is look at the news to realize that natural and man-made disasters are abundant and can happen anywhere and at anytime. As of the writing of this some of the major disasters are the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, tornadoes in the Mid-West United States, and famine in the Horn of Africa, not to mention the beginning of the hurricane season. You can't stop a disaster from happening but you can be prepared. You will need to meet your basic needs and those of your family. The basic needs are food, water, and shelter. I would also like to inject communication, electricity, and mobility as secondary needs in our modern world.
